Haggai

quite innocently i found myself stumbling into the book of haggai the other morning where i read these words:

"now this is what the LORD ALMIGHTY says: give careful thought to your ways. you have planted much but harvested little. you eat but never have enough. you drink but never have your fill. you put on clothes but are not warm. you earn wages, only to put them into a purse with holes in it..."

the prophet is writing to the generation that has returned from exile and is building their own houses but hasn't yet given priority to building the house of the Lord. putting god on a back burner in order to accomplish all the things that wrap their minds up, while all the time forgetting the most important thing any of us can ever pursue in this life...

how true are these words in our own day!? we run after so much, often neglecting to give proper priority to god. there's a song by a guy named david crowder that goes "life makes it so hard sometimes to know what's real" and i think this echoes the call of the prophets... get life in proper order before it's too late to have that option. i'm doing some discipleship with a couple guys from church and we're diving into the wisdom of proverbs. the amazing thing to me is that i know most of this stuff, i just don't always do it... may it be that we would all become doers of the word and not hearers only...

haggai continues:
"'in a little while i (GOD) will once again shake the heavens and the earth, the sea and the dry land. i will shake all nations, and the desired of all nations will come, and i will fill this house with glory', says the LORD ALMIGHTY."

the day is coming christ will return, is my life in order. He will shake the nations... HE will be glorified.
