One of the very highest privileges I have had in this life is to be a father. What's more is that since we've not been able to have kids on our own as of yet, I have the extreme honor of being an adoptive father. This has been such a huge blessing in my life. Both of my kiddos are incredible in every way and I cannot possibly imagine any other expression of love than this, and yet this Father's Day is also a little bitter sweet.
The reason is that in spite of our wonderful little family we have another daughter from whom we separated by both space and what seems to be rolls and rolls of red tape. The process of adopting is a big one to be sure, and even becomes harder when you know the child and love them so much yet cannot hold them in your arms or rock them to bed at night. Our baby girl will join the family soon enough (physically that is, she's already in our hearts), but the waiting is so hard sometimes.
I'm reminded that times like these grow us in perseverance, and that leads to hope.
My prayer today as I think about Fatherhood is that God will grant not only our fulfillment but also that of so many good friends who are also waiting.
I count it a high honor to be among the group of men who are raising up to rebuild the image of godly men and good fathers. Thanks to all who are accepting this challenge and may it be a truly blessed Father's day!
