IPFY (i'll pray for you)

One of my awesome teens posted a little social rant about some of the phrases we use in our society targeting things like YOLO and "ya feel me." (it's pretty good if you want to read it click here)
As I read this though it got me thinking about another common phrase that comes out of our mouths all too often carrying none of it's intended meaning...

"I'll pray for you..."

So often something will come up in conversation or post on Facebook or in some other context and these little words slip out of my mouth with very little rational intent on following through. It's been a challenge on my heart lately. When I say that I'll pray for something, do I follow through.

This from Eastons Bible Dictionary...
"Acceptable prayer must be sincere (Heb 10: 22), offered with reverence and godly fear, with a humble sense of our own insignificance as creatures and of our own unworthiness as sinners, with earnest importunity, and with unhesitating submission to the divine will. Prayer must also be offered in the faith that God is, and is the hearer and answerer of prayer..."

Her little call to use our words wisely is a good one. To promise to invoke the power of the Almighty on behalf of a situation is, as a follower of Jesus, a huge one. The divine moves at the whispers of our hearts. It's a challenge for me to use the things that I promise as a way to further my own relationship with the Almighty. May the grace of prayer be forever before us.

May we be people who make good on the vows of our lips... after all YOLO.

Much love
