one of the finest benefits of working for the church is the fact that my weekend comes on monday and tuesday. this monday was a fine day to enjoy breakfast with friends before heading down to some of the best mountain biking within a quick drive from chicago. mud flew, bugs bit, and friends laughed. what a blessing! living in the city can sometimes be quite oppressive; so many people, too few trees and constant noise... but still we feel compelled, drawn, even called to the city for all the same reasons.
when we do escape we remember the wonder of god's creation and the amazing way that fresh air can truly refresh the soul. a simple thing like a muddy single track trail thru the woods can take a compressed soul and let it soar. i'm reminded why the psalmist was able to write the things he did when god's hand is so easily seen in the seemingly mundane elements of creation.
anyway it was a great way to spend the morning off. you should try it sometime!
much love
pb
