Missio Dei

saturday held the 3rd installment of our leadership summit called base camp. this was a pretty major one as we publicly announced to our intentions to change the name of our communities from the church of wrigleyville and citichurch of wicker park to Missio Dei Chicago: a community of jesus. 

Missio Dei is the latin term for the "mission of god".  this new name is one that we feel god has given to our communities as we are his mission and we're on his mission. the bible is full of examples of god changing the name of individuals to give them greater purpose and mission. we have been called to be a missional church and we're doing our best to see where god's working and join in the work. 

initially some were pretty hesitant to the change but i think it will truely unite our communities and drive our people forward to live as christ's hands and feet in this world. sunday we announced it to the whole church and the response seemed good. we're excited for all the amazing things that god's doing here, praying that we can follow, and hopeful that he will use us for great things. 

god is on mission, he always has been, he always will be. the choice is our's whether we join in or let him pass us by. my prayer is that we engage for his glory and for his ends...
