this past weekend was a long one for me. i had the task of manning our soon to be (hopefully) coffee shop's booth at the bucktown arts fest. this was the first time we'd ever done a booth and boy did we have a learning curve to deal with. the first day was pretty much worthless, other than getting our name out there. so we did some major rehauling and redesign on our booth and this is what we ended up with. day two while still long was much better business wise.
the larger benefit of this whole event (and the long hours) was that we/i got a considerable amount of time to enjoy hanging out with great friends and making some new ones in the community. we served some amazing mocha frozen coffee's but bigger than that we got to have a touch in our community that we would never have otherwise had.
so what did i learn? well, for one i learned that summer-time in chicago rocks! all the people, the lives that exist as independent spheres collide and combine at these kind of things like they would never otherwise. it was really interesting to see so many people from all walks of life coming together to enjoy art, summer, music, and fun. second, i learned how much people matter to god. we had the fun of making killer frozen drinks for thirsty people but we also had the chance to love people by simply treating them like people. we talked, we laughed, we had a lot of fun.
all in all the event was a long, highly caffienated, tiring ball of fun. if we do it again, i'm sure we'll have some improvements but we'll not forget some of the folks that made this event so special.
much love
pb
