family ties

i was invited yesterday to join an online group for my extended family. personally, this i think is a pretty cool thing, but then i got to thinking: why is it so hard to keep in touch? with things like the net and cell phone (which i use exclusively) [funny side note: i tried to dial a long distance number on a land line the other day and couldn't even vaguely remember the last time i had to dial a 1 before the area code, what's up with that?] anyway, each time i see a friend or family member who i havn't been in contact with much as the time slips away, i recommit myself to "keeping in touch". then before i know it i haven't so much as dropped a note for months. why is it so hard? i decided that i need to do better on this, so i think i'm going to make up online group lists for different categories of my life and see how that works. if that's a failure then i think i'm going to curl up in a cave in utah and become a hermit.

by doing this blog i hope to put some of the fault back on them as well, b/c at least this way my thoughts are out here....

call someone you love and haven't talked to in a while this week, lest you like me resort to hermitry.
