no this is not another blog about my addiction, rather it is a testimony to the impact that a community can have. last sunday night we (our church) decided to have an iceskating outing. as could be expected, nightime in february in chicago can be pretty chilly but out of no where comes this guy carrying a bright orange bag and a huge professional pot of julius meinl coffee. the man happens to be the owner of our local coffee emporium in wrigleyville, at which our pastors and community members spend very large amounts of time. because of that fact he has started coming out to our church on sunday mornings and we've partnered with him to get some of the best coffee in the world for our services.
so he was at church when we announced the outing and without telling anyone, he just showed up with this huge pot of coffee (several gallons) and gave it to those of us freezing out butts off at the iceskating rink. i doubt steve will ever read this but what a cool thing for a community to have so much of a presence in their community that people in their neighborhood are willing to love on the members like that.
by the way, this is not by any means some attempt to brag on my church, rather i think it's just so refreshing for me to be a part of a community that really cares about the people around them. how radically would our world change if we in the churches would open our doors and look at the hurting and broken all around us, and actually do something about it!
that's enough of my soapbox, i just thought it was a cool experience i'd share. if you're ever in wrigleyville i'll treat you to a cup of totally awesome coffee!
this is the symbol of julius meinl coffee from their website, if you see this mark it means great coffee!
